France and Morocco have been working to repair ties after years of diplomatic coolness. But a newly published investigation has overshadowed that effort, alleging that Moroccan intelligence services surveilled senior French officials using Pegasus spyware.
The claims expose how fragile the trust-building process between the two countries remains. French officials have not issued a formal response, while Rabat has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations.
The development has renewed international calls for oversight of Israel's NSO Group, the maker of Pegasus, which has previously been accused of enabling surveillance of European leaders and journalists.
