Search and rescue teams are continuing to work in the area to locate the remaining passengers. Officials said an investigation into the circumstances of the sinking has also been opened.
Ferries are a primary means of transport between coastal communities in Guyana. Authorities said maritime safety inspections would be reviewed once the rescue operation concludes.
