Uganda unveiled a statue honouring Yonatan Netanyahu, the only Israeli soldier killed during the 1976 Entebbe raid, an operation that freed more than 100 hostages held aboard a hijacked aircraft.
Netanyahu, the elder brother of Israel's current prime minister, led the mission in which he was killed. Senior Israeli and Ugandan officials attended the unveiling ceremony, with the statue placed near the airport where the raid took place.
The Entebbe operation is regarded as one of history's most notable hostage-rescue missions and is remembered as a symbolic milestone in relations between the two countries. Officials said the monument was intended to reinforce the historical bond between Uganda and Israel.
