Netanyahu Caught Between Trump and Coalition Ministers Over Hamas Deal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is caught between pressure from Washington and resistance inside his own governing coalition over how to handle Hamas. US President Donald Trump has pressed Israel to finalise a ceasefire and disarmament agreement with Hamas without further delay, describing a swift deal as central to ending the war in Gaza and stabilising the wider region.

Within Netanyahu's cabinet, ministers including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir have said they will not back any agreement with Hamas under current terms and have warned they may leave the coalition if one is signed. Their objection rests on doubts that Hamas will honour a disarmament commitment, rather than on the structure of the proposed deal itself.

The disagreement leaves Netanyahu balancing a US relationship his government depends on against a parliamentary majority he needs to stay in office.
